Kindly sponsored by Qpass, Upaid and Bango, the first seminar will take an in-depth look at mobile content payment mechanisms since the death of Simpay was announced at the start of the summer.
Ken Parkinson, senior director for business development at Qpass EMEA, will be talking about the how Simpay’s failure is likely to mean another industry-wide payment channel will be some time off in the future, leaving content providers to feed on the meagre revenue crumbs offered by mobile operators. But the arrival O2’s i-Mode service, offering an 84 percent revenue split for content providers, could lead to a more general up-lift in payment terms across the industry.
Ken will also be taking a look at PSMS and arguing that if you take away the poor revenue split with operators it actually works pretty well, albeit with some key problems that need resolving. To illustrate this Ken will discuss the optimisation of current payment systems, transaction management and the elimination of revenue leakage and fraud. Qpass will make available to delegates, free of charge, a study it commissioned which analyses the size of this problem.
CEO of Upaid, Ashley Ward, will be looking at the future of payments systems and surveying the on-going needs of the mobile commerce industry, despite Simpay’s demise. As other alternative mobile payment mechanisms emerge what role should operators, aggregators, content providers and finance institutions occupy?
And no discussion about content payments would be complete without a contribution from Bango. Anil Malhotra, head of partnerships and alliances for Bango, will discuss the work it did alongside Simpay, the benefits of having a common scheme for billing around the world, its recent partnership with PayPal, and how the company is working to ensure a fairer market for every one. Anil will also be able provide real data on how successful different payment mechanisms have been. And what about the user experience when it comes to paying? How will this affect revenues?
The discussions will be mediated by Mike Grenville, chairman of 160 Characters and a question and answer session will be kept open. After the seminar, attendees will have the opportunity to network in the bar.
