| Campaign Mobile - Forests and Cities |
NGOs and campaign groups have been slow to take advantage of mobile phones. This is the first in a series of events that aims to show that there is plenty of mobile technology out there already and to provide a forum help take advantage of it and to share ideas and expertise.
We are fortunate to have a visit from Oscar Soria from Greenpeace in Argentina who will be talking about his first hand experiences of mobileactivism and some of Greenpeace Argentina's usage of mobile phones in campaigns (which is different!). He will draw on their work in the forest ( Greenpeace Uses SMS To Monitors Forest Destruction ) and the campaign on zero waste that recently won the 160Characters Mobile Messaging Award for 'Best messaging application: public sector/not for profit' as well as their plans for forthcoming projects using mobile.

China has seen tremendous growth in the usage of SMS with 550 billion messages predicted to be sent in 2004 up from 170 billion in 2003. Likewise mobile data usage is expected to continue to exceed 100% annual growth over the next several years.
A market that is set to dominate the world of GSM sounds like one that we should be pay some attention to. This event is intended to start you thinking about the opportunities for the mobile services industry as well as some of the challenges you will face.

Ulrich Bolze - Siemens Mobile Acceleration
Ulrich will give an overview of the wireless telecoms market in China. He will also share Siemens experiences of the venture capital in China: stage, challenges, typical terms, exit, differences to Europe. He will talk about the characteristics and differences to Europe of technology start-ups in China with particular example in wireless.
Andrew Darling - journalist
Meetings with senior advisors to the Ministry of Information Industries - covered WiFi, 3G licenses, foreign investment and JVs. He will also talk about the Premium SMS and content business in China as well as the challenges of doing business in China.
Peter Courtney - Mobix
Peter will talk about the highs and lows of Mobix's experiences in China from initial meetings at their stand at the 3GSM show in Cannes Feb 2002, through opening office in Hong Kong the following September and the Mobix service going live Xmas 2002. A Beijing office followed in September 2003 with equipment approval in April 2004.
